Vedna Heywood to Run for Select Board

Vedna Heywood announced today that she is running in the Special Election for the recently vacated seat for Select Person.

Vedna would bring a strong, fresh and authentic voice from South Plymouth, a part of the community not currently represented on the Board.

“When Shelagh resigned,” Vedna said, “that changed everything.”

“Our town is a remarkable community, filled with talented, hard-working and dedicated people, who share a deep appreciation for our historic town. We have what it takes to make Plymouth thrive economically and be environmentally sustainable for our families, employees, students, seasonal residents and tourists and the Select Board needs a broader vision and stronger leadership to make that so,” Vedna said.

“And because of these unique qualities, I believe Plymouth needs and deserves a choice. The people of Plymouth need a choice in who advocates for and represents them at the Select Board level, whether it be regarding affordable housing, living wages, how we attain a pattern of sustainable economic growth and natural resource protection.”

“Property taxes are a concern for all of us.  It is time to dig into the real causes of the rising costs of Plymouth government services. One cause is the out of control sprawl that demands more services.  Too many of these new developments do not generate enough property taxes/per new residential unit to cover those costs.”

Vedna is inviting all who share her interest in Plymouth today and its future tomorrow to join her campaign and to vote for the Plymouth we love.

“It will be a great privilege to continue to serve my community on the Select Board – to serve and represent Plymouth residents fairly, in an authentic and inclusionary way, not just focus on parts of our community, but the whole.”

The Campaign Kick Off will be held on June 24th between 5:30-7:30pm at the Plimoth Patuxet Museums at 137 Warren Avenue
